Charles Mwangi Gachamba was born on 1st January, 1958. He was the tenth child of Mr Douglas Gachamba and Rahab Wanjiru. He was brother to Ruth Wanjiku Gattimu, Bedan Kahuthia, Peter Kariuki, Virginia Njoki, Moffat Kang’ethe, Paul Kamau, Kellen Nyambura,Joyce Muthoni and Francis Chege.
He started his education in Kirunguru primary school and then went to Gaichanjiru secondary school. Thereafter, he joined the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (K.B.C) formerly the Voice of Kenya (V.O.K) and then started his business of importing vehicles from Japan, where he took online education and furthered it in Australia.
He got married in 1989 to Margaret Muthoni Karanja and Ruth Nyambura Ngari on 1st August, 2008.
He was blessed with six children Dennis Gachamba Senior, Irene Wanjiru, Maurine Mukuhi, Daniel Ngari. He has left behind two grandchildren Dennis and Kayla.
The late joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was baptised in 1995.
Dr. Mwangi had a very strong vision in farming, especially horticultural farming, leaning heavily towards organic farming. His distaste for chemical fertilisers made him diversify to manufacturing organic fertilisers, hence he started the factory at the gate of his homestead.
The above farming activities and other community empowering initiatives, made him to be recognised as a Shujaa during the 2020 Mashujaa day celebrations by His excellency the President Uhuru Kenyatta.
On Thursday 22nd October, he started feeling unwell and on Saturday 24th October he was taken to Avenue Hospital – Thika and discharged. However, he was to be re-admitted at the same hospital on the following day.
He was transferred to Kenyatta referral hospital on Wednesday 28th morning around 5am. He unfortunately passed on at around 9pm later that evening.
Dr. Mwangi Gachamba is survived by two widows, six children and two grandchildren.
